At the end of last week I got to teach a lively bunch of Year 2 pirates in PE, we had all sorts of pirate activities. There was ‘walk the plank’, ‘stepping stones to shore’ and of course, there were lots of screams as they ran away from the Jolly Roger and Captain Ross.

This week the theme has been ‘accuracy’. The pupils loved using targets on the wall to practice their throwing, hurdles on the floor to roll the ball through and also throwing the ball through some moving hoops. Lots of smiles and celebrations when targets were hit.

We are extremely proud of all of our swimmers in the last week, they have competed in two galas and performed brilliantly. Maddie R led by example and brought such a refreshing attitude in the girls races. Hetty and Herbert T excelled in their races and showed the opposition why they are such competitive swimmers outside of school. Thank you to Miss Norris and Mrs Noble for organising the galas, the children had a great time.

The seniors had late fixtures this week. The Year 7 and 8 girls made the short trip to Maynard and both teams played some really mature netball. Leela R covered endless amounts of the court while Josie C did the same for her team. The senior boys also made a trip just around the corner on Wednesday to Exeter School. A very pleasing afternoon where teamwork was key. Captain Alfie H led the way with an excellent performance and set the tone for the other pupils. Two very competitive games and both very enjoyable to watch.

Year 5 and 6 girls travelled to play Cranbrook Education Campus, a first for this age group and what an afternoon it was. Both schools focused on participation and getting plenty of opportunities to try new positions on the court and lots of time for learning and gaining confidence. A great effort from everyone involved.

On Thursday the U8 and U9 boys hosted West Buckland for hockey while the U8 and U9 girls hosted a netball triangular with West Buckland and Maynard. All pupils played a part in a fantastic afternoon of sport at our home facilities at Exeter University.

Tuesday 4th February it is our ‘Spotlight on Sport and Wellbeing’ evening, 7.30pm. Why not come along and find out what goes on behind the scenes here at ECS and our rationale behind everything we do. Lots to take away and some ideas for home practice. Hopefully I will see lots of you there.
