Congratulations to Mr Kelly, who ran 110k in the dark last week! Once he’d recovered he told us a little bit more about it:
Last Friday, I took part in the North Coast Ultra in North Devon. Travelling from Barnstaple to Minehead along the South West Coastal Path, the route is 110km long and climbs over 3,500m! Conditions were certainly challenging – it rained for almost the entire event, turning many of the paths into rivers. As if that wasn’t tough enough, it took place overnight, and I set off from Barnstaple Rugby Club at 8.15pm with just a trusty headtorch to keep me company.
There were many tricky sections along the way, especially the hill between Porlock Weir and Minehead – it was so steep and seemed to go on forever!
I ran in to Minehead at 11am on Saturday morning. It was a huge relief to get warm and dry after a night on the coast in the rain, and a third-place finish made it all the more satisfying.
