Exeter Cathedral School is becoming a THRIVE school ☀️

Using the Thrive Approach

I’m excited to let you know that ECS is in the process of becoming a Thrive school.  The Thrive Approach is a way of working so that we improve the mental health and wellbeing of our children alongside their academic development. In January all staff had introductory training on the Thrive Approach, and I am currently training to become a Thrive Practitioner.

The Thrive Approach is informed by established neuroscientific research and is underpinned by child development theory, transactional analysis and attachment theory, creativity, play and the arts. At the heart of Thrive lies the understanding that children’s behaviour represents a form of communication – of their underlying needs. If we can recognise and meet these needs, children are able to flourish and learn.

We are already beginning to see the benefits of using the Thrive Approach in Pre-Prep, with the aim of implementing it across the whole school from September 2024. You can find out more about Thrive here and if you have any questions then please don’t hesitate to contact me.
