Dartmoor Zoological Park

Year 5 crossed all their fingers for a whole week and were rewarded with a non-windy, non-raining day on Wednesday which was perfect for our zoo visit.

The Dartmoor Zoological Park provided us with a bespoke tour and teaching session with two handling sessions as well. Many pupils held a snake, a stick insect, a tortoise and a cockroach, there were a few interesting faces and Mrs Lake-Johns needed a quick lie down after being extremely brave with Colin – a menacing and quite terrifying… corn snake!

Some of the comments from the pupils, mentioned the heavenly, awesome and scientific feelings and most pupils could quote Benjamin Mee by the end of the day

“You know, sometimes all you need is twenty seconds of insane courage. Just literally twenty seconds of just embarrassing bravery. And I promise you, something great will come of it.”

The most popular animals were the big cats and as Year 5 now say frequently, when faced by a difficult question, the answer is almost always…”Why not?”

We all recommend the Zoo and will be publishing many photos in the newsletter over the next few weeks.
