At Exeter Cathedral School, we are passionate about making Mathematics engaging and accessible for all pupils.
Our approach combines a wide range of teaching methods to inspire curiosity and enjoyment, from celebrating Pi Day with pies to running competitions, mathematical games, and interactive lessons.
Practical activities are a key feature of our curriculum, ensuring that learning is both hands-on and dynamic across all year groups.
We tailor each lesson to the individual, ensuring that every pupil can progress at their own pace—there’s no one-size-fits-all approach here.
Maths scholarship and entrance exam preparation
For our most gifted mathematicians, we offer Maths Scholarship support, which challenges pupils with higher-order thinking, advanced algebra, and problem-solving skills, equipping them for even the most rigorous entrance and scholarship exams.
Maths Club
Maths Club runs twice a week and gives pupils extra support or practice. Whether they need help with classroom work or want to reinforce their skills, pupils can enjoy honing their basics with the award-winning, games-based software Sumdog.
Curriculum
Our well-resourced department is staffed by specialist teachers for older pupils, with a curriculum that extends beyond the National Curriculum and follows the Common Entrance syllabus. White Rose schemes are used for Key Stages 1 and 2, while MyMaths provides the foundation for Key Stages 2 and 3. Learning at Exeter Cathedral School isn’t confined to the classroom—pupils are just as likely to be found outdoors, using tape measures and with clipboards in hand as they are completing workbooks!
