It was the U10 girls who kick started the week against Maynard in a home fixture at the university astroturf pitches. A dry and sunny (I know!) afternoon filled with some excellent teamwork and outstanding performances from Gen S-J and Rosie E.
On Wednesday we had the pleasure of welcoming Nic Sestarent, the Director of Rugby at Taunton School. Nic led an inspiring rugby masterclass for both staff and pupils. He put our senior boys through their paces where each and every one of them worked hard and showed how far they have come this term. Well done boys.
Wednesday also saw the U11 girls play Maynard at Crediton Leisure Centre. Thrilling end to end matches saw ECS having to work hard for each other in attack and defence and it certainly paid off.
Meanwhile, the U11 and U10 boys made the long journey to Truro Prep School to compete in their annual rugby festival. This was a day trip for the boys as they got to leave school early, have a bus trip with their friends, have a yummy lunch on the way and then play exciting rugby. That has to be one of the best experiences in playing sport, being part of a team and making those journeys together. Mr Pennington and Mr Haywood said the boys played the best rugby they have played all term, they represented the school admirably and it was a pleasure to attend the festival with them. Well done to all boys involved and a big thank you to the staff for their effort and enthusiasm.
As you will know from a previous Newsletter article, Poppy McC in Year 7 recently qualified to represent Exeter in the Devon School’s Cross Country. On Wednesday 27th November Poppy represented Exeter and was in fine running form. She finished in 4th position in the Year 7 girls category and has qualified to represent Exeter and East Devon at the Devon Schools Cross-Country Championships at Stover School in January. A brilliant achievement and we look forward to watching her progress. Well done, Poppy.
The last fixture of the week was an additional fixture to the calendar, a trip for the U8 and U9 boys to West Buckland. Every boy in Year 3 & 4 played in this fixture and had an exciting afternoon trying out new skills and playing alongside their friends.
Next week will be our last week of fixtures this term with the focus then shifting to the ever so competitive inter house rugby and hockey matches. The pupils will also have an introduction to Cross Country.
