On Friday 27th September Year 2 visited Escot Park for a brilliant day of Living History.
We delved into the past and enjoyed activities around the time of the Anglo Saxons. Our day started by frantically finding a route through the beech tree maze; lots of children enjoyed being lost so much that they asked to do it again when they found themselves at the ‘home’!
We then moved to the Saxon Village, where we spent the remainder of the morning. Here activities included: milling and bread making using herbs which the children could pick themselves; forging to create a class brooch; pole lathing; looking around the imitation homes; handling artefacts and dressing up.
After lunch we went on a guided walk through the park and saw wolves, lynx, wild boar, a red fox and red squirrels. The trees were majestic and we learnt about how the Saxons used the plants around them for healing, medicine and food. The day ended with a short play in the pirate ship area where some children had a go on the huge rope swing. Thank you so much to the parents who came along and helped us to have a fantastic day.
