Last week, our Year 3 pupils transformed into brave Roman soldiers to defend Isca Dumnoniorum (Roman Exeter) from a surprise Celtic attack. Through this immersive historical experience, the children developed a range of essential skills.
By delving into the past, our young historians honed their enquiry skills. They explored the lives of Roman citizens, soldiers and Celtic tribes, gaining a deeper understanding of the historical context.
The role-playing activity encouraged perspective-taking, as the children stepped into the shoes of both Roman and Celtic characters. This helped them to empathise with different viewpoints and appreciate the complexities of historical events.
Finally, the children had the opportunity to share their experiences through storytelling, developing their communication and creative expression skills.
