Exeter Cathedral School Awarded Official Thrive Approach School Status

We are delighted to announce that Exeter Cathedral School is officially a Thrive Approach school!

What is the Thrive Approach?

Our Thrive Licensed Practitioner, Mrs. Amy Hassell, explains: “This approach is informed by established neuroscientific research and is underpinned by child development theory, transactional analysis, attachment theory, creativity, play, and the arts.”

At the heart of Thrive lies the understanding that children’s behaviour represents a form of communication – of their underlying needs. If we can recognise and meet these needs, children are able to flourish and learn.”

The Thrive Approach at Exeter Cathedral School

By adopting the Thrive Approach, Exeter Cathedral School is committed to creating a nurturing environment where every pupil feels safe, valued, and empowered to reach their full potential. Through a deep understanding of child development and the science behind behaviour, our school will be equipped to:

  • Build strong relationships: Thrive emphasises the importance of secure attachments between children and adults. Our staff will be trained to develop strong, positive relationships with pupils, fostering trust and creating a sense of belonging.
  • Develop emotional intelligence: Thrive helps children understand and manage their emotions. Through a range of activities and experiences, our pupils will learn to identify and express their feelings, build resilience, and develop empathy.
  • Enhance self-regulation: Thrive supports children in developing self-control and the ability to manage their behaviour. By teaching effective coping strategies, we will help our pupils to focus, concentrate, and learn more effectively.
  • Promote independence: Thrive encourages children to become confident and independent individuals. Through age-appropriate challenges and opportunities, we will support our pupils in developing a sense of agency and self-belief.
  • Foster creativity and curiosity: Thrive recognises the importance of creativity and imagination in child development. Our curriculum will incorporate opportunities for exploration, problem-solving, and artistic expression, inspiring a lifelong love of learning.

Added Value for Families

By choosing Exeter Cathedral School, families can be confident that their child will receive a holistic education that prioritises their emotional well-being alongside academic achievement. The Thrive Approach will equip pupils with the essential life skills they need to succeed, build strong relationships, and thrive in all areas of their lives.

We believe that by working closely with families, we can create a supportive and nurturing environment for all our pupils. We look forward to sharing our Thrive journey with you and celebrating the positive impact it will have on our school community.

Thank you, Thrive, for supporting us in helping our pupils flourish.
